Bert Liffen's Brilliant No.2 photographed when new in the summer of 1935. This machine was rebuilt to the original specification by the late Dave Pinkerton in 1996.



The author's father, Bert Liffen, was one of the earliest customers for a curly Hetchin's, taking delivery of his Brilliant No.2 (frame no. 336) on 19 April 1936. This view dates from autumn.

Cor Wals and Piet van Kempen both riding Hetchin's in the 1938 Wembley Six-Day; it was after this event that the Six-Day model incorporating the fluted seat tube from the Competition Tandem was launched.
